Art Doll for Something Red

It is that time of year again...the "Something Red Show" in Salem Oregon.

This year I am displaying my Art Doll. She has a pretty red bow and red roots in her hair.

I am so Thankful...this Nov. for Sheri DeBow who taught me her method of making dolls. Check out her Facebook for lots of photo's and fun....

I made her eyes as those who follow my blog know you can do a search on my blog to find out how. This little dollie didn't have deep enough eye sockets so her eyes are kinda buggy..but....she is cute anyway.

Dolls can be hard to sell for Art prices..so I decided to give her her own frame..house. Using all my mix media methods I learned from teachers at Art and Soul and Art Fest I went to work.

Ann Durley

Then I visited the great and wonderful Ann Durley who lives near me. She makes the best clocks..She taught me how to make an arty box.

She gave me some antique what nots to get started..thank you Ann......and then I spent 3 days in a 60 mile radius going all over to antique, thrifts shops and lumber yards..looking for stuff to make the box.

Finally with the stuff in hand... I now had to go on craigslist and pawn shops to get me a Radial Electric Saw and a Finish Nail gun..not to mention the right nails finally and other tools.

And then there was vacuuming up the dust...yeeks. Today I am off to deliver my doll...to the show..then home to clean the studio!!!!!!!!!

Michelle Allens Giveaway

Love Michelle's art..check it out.

Modern Modonna and Child

This is one of my favorite painting.
Etsy ad.
"I love to mix the ancient and the modern. This reminds me of so many enduring symbols. She is medieval and she is a modern young mother. I think of the Madonna and Child and I think of King Arthur.....

I love the crowns and the wings and the birds. All the stuff of dreams and hope."

I repainted the faces on this mixed media painting for the show at the Bush Barn. I am really happy with my face painting skills are improving.
I haven't had lots of time to paint with working for our music business. I have to work like so many women artists. But I get to pick my hours and I have fun traveling and all the other perks. The good news is that over time painting a little here and a little there the abilities improve. I am Thankful!!! this beautiful month of Thanksgiving.

You can buy a print of my painting on my etsy.

Paintings for Bush Art Winter/Holiday Show

A couple paintings I have in the Bush Art Gallery.
I reworked this painting..it is so much more powerful now.

My husband noticed that it is full of meaning ..Art expressing your deep self just like dreams is always a surprise to me. I think because I am often so mental. I guess that is why God gave me artistic talent....

Here are some thoughts about the painting.

Venice Dreams

Venice Dreams Print 8x10 inches
Venice Dreams Print 8x10 inches Venice Dreams Print 8x10 inches Venice Dreams Print 8x10 inches
This painting is full of meanings that only became apparent when it was completed. The woman is lost in a dream. The dream in front of her is orderly like a city but it doesn't seem to really fulfill all that is in her heart. Even the Lily's that she loves are felt through a black glove and fall from her hand.

But behind her is where her true self is full of the joy of masses of butterfly's flying to the moon...a subconscious place of truth that is beginning to come to life.

Her wings are not fully formed yet. Although she can not now fly to her destiny with them but the promise is there as they continue to emerge.

Her heart is filled with the white purity of the peacock in an imaginative beautiful mansion in Venice, Italy.

Christmas Snow Angel Faerie

I have loved bottle brush trees for such a long time.
They make little magical snow forests and villages..
I now found a way to make them into Doll ornaments.
Glitter, and netting, and sparkle, and faeire's and Angles and Christmas oh my...I have them for sale on my Etsy...

Happy Happy..Christmas crafting...it is the Nov. Craft sales month!!!

Fernando Sor & John Doan Graphics

The sun is out and summer and is here but I am indoors making graphic art for my husbands new CD Homagae to Fernando Sor the father of Classical Guitar.
I have always wanted to see a colored painting of Fernando Sor. There was a litho print from the original  painting of him that is now lost.
so I used this cool painting of a Russian Guitarist with a 7 string guitar and did my digital art magic creating a new painting of Fernando Sor. I used his grave stone photo I took in Paris for a cool layer to make it look old and hold together.

Having gone to Russia where Fernando Sor lived with his wife the Prima Ballerina of Paris who taught and danced at the Bolshoi Theater Moscow. Sor wrote a ballet about Cinderella that opened the theater in the 1824.
This summer we got to walk the streets where he lived. You can go to my husband John Doan's blog and sign up for emails when he puts up new blogs. He is posting a series of our time in Moscow. I took all the photo's there are some funny stuff there.
Click to see this big...so cool.

Here is the poster I have been working on..John's photo was taken by an amazing photographer in Kiev Ukraine. Igor Voloshin. Check out his amazing work!
Igor does lots of Gothic like photo's but I found one that is not.

Here is the other part of the project. The cover for the new CD and the digital painting of Sor is the the back part of the CD.

My friend Carlee Justis put the guitar in the back. We didn't have the Panormal 1820's guitar with us in Ukraine. So we had to photo shop it in.
She was amazing..shadows and highlights and all! Her skills are way over mine. Thank you for saving me Carlee!!

And THANK you Igor Voloshin..none of this would happened with out you and your friends and Victoria in Kiev who put us together with your beautiful work. The photo's and the this new poster is a new level for us!

More Ukraine Love

Ukraine was only a week but it will be in my heart forever.

In Keiv an amazing photographer took my husbands photo's. So powerful.
 Back in Lviv the streets.

In the ancient town of Lviv there is a very ancient Byzantine church. The paintings I am showing are front the 1890's I think. I love this romantic style of painting…like the Pre Raphaelite  painters. Meron one of our hosts took us on a personal tour of his city..

After Meron and his son Vladimir (the owners of the guitar factory were they are making my husbands 20 string harp guitar) took us to dinner at a very special restaurant. The food was so great and exotic to me in a familiar way.
Trembeta guitar factory.
Then we took a overnight Russian train to Kiev. What a trip that was…so old ..arriving at midnight I felt like I was in a black and white film from 1930's. I could also feel the WW 11 and the sadness and the Jewish tragedy. The little bunk beds and Russian coffee cups for the morning..it was like a dream.
We had a cabin but in the back everyone just slept in their own bed in with others all around. Whew...
Walking the streets to our hosts Victoria's home in the fancy side of the city by the ancient gate.
 The Golden Gate...of Keiv.

The deck off Victoria's apt. in the Golden Gate district.
Lovely Victoria designed her apt...up 6 flights of stairs. No elevator. It was so wonderful to stay with her. She is the one not he right.
A party in the country. Jay Buckey in the Hawaiian shirt is from USA. He lives in Ukraine and he is making harp guitars with Trembeta.
It has been a long dream of John's for people to have a harp guitar they can afford. Up to now they were only antiques or you had to have it made for you. We are so happy now to be part of helping people all  over the world get a harp guitar and helping the Ukrainian people have work!! They are so wonderful.
