Fernando Sor Father of Classical Guitar Homage by John Doan

Fernado Sor Digital painting Deirdra Doan
I always wanted to paint Sor and give him some color. So I did a digital collage.
This past weekend John and I were on tour in Roseburg OR and Etna CA near Yreka  CA.

In Roseburg Or over 400 people crowded into the Umpqua Symphony Association venue. It was amazing twice the size of the normal crowd!
People where crying.... In Etna hearts where touched and more tears and joy! John Doan has created a wonderful show about the life and times of Fernando Sor the Father of the Classical guitar. Our friend who was our host and Cheusa blogged about it here. His story touches the core of all of our life's journey.

Much of my art has been dedicated to getting this show off the ground.
I milk painted a table for show for the guitar to sit on and have been working on the PR graphics. As well as youtube video's. Sending Sor CD's to radio stations etc.

We have had almost 3 million hits on his Sor Harpolyre Youtube.

His new CD has my painting on it. It is called Homage to Fernando Sor.
One of our friends who does the music for the hit TV series NCSI plays it for his toddlers about 1 hour before bed time. They just start to mellow out and go to sleep in peace!!

Check it out here.

With the magic of photoshop the Sor guitar was put on the wall of this photo taken in Keiv Ukraine..ha...

Happy Christmas and soon.

"Song Castles in the Sand" song and beautiful views of James Hubbells "Surf Song" in Del Mar.
James Hubbell design/art "Surf Song" in Del Mar built in 1977

You can hear me sing on the youtube a beautiful song by Muriel Anderson why she plays the harp guitar. And to my husband music. I am posting my process of dreaming and praying to encourage you too of the possibility of reaching your true self that is buried in your dreams..your desires that God has put in you. His dreams for you that are Good and hopeful and have a future!! Love to hear you stories....

I have been in Southern CA. Dreaming and praying about being near my son and his family. It is a big dream with a big price tag. So it takes much prayer with faith and trust.
I was given a gift ...a little love letter by God to encourage me. I went to visit my son and also to look at the land to see where I would want to be and what to believe and pray for. To see where God would want John and I  to live.
An amazing things happen. As I was looking at open houses I saw a home with a big price tag in Del Mar. I sent an email to John saying this would be my dream home. I just noticed that it had art, pine trees, ocean view and dream. That is why I love Montecito  by Santa Barbara. I was raised in the country of Southern CA that had wonderful buildings and vision...The Mission Inn was my play ground...where I would go draw and dream....with views of the Mountains, rocks and trees. I also lived in Florida so Santa Barbara is a perfect combo of the two places of my dreams..I also lived in England and would visit the Manor houses.
I have cherished being in water all my life a gift from my bio Dad whose family loved water..I am a little mermaid. I was a life guard and swim teacher and so was my son. I believe that water is more about mystery and intuitive ways of knowing..of God.
My husband loves a view where he can write more beautiful music. Del Mar has the wonderful aspects of Santa Barbara of canyons, surf and mountains.

I was blessed years ago to meet James Hubbell you can read about it below.
The love letter from God was that this "Surf Song" home was built by James Hubbell! And I didn't realize it. But when I did I wrote the Realtor and found out it was an open house! The only day I could have come!! So I knew it was from God to have the visit and the vision.

So I am pregnant with seed for another home. It will take much money and Faith. But my job is to pray and believe it is Gods job to figure out how and when and to bring the finances.
We just keep doing what he tells us to do with the gifts of our hands..and He say's a man's gift will make room for him.

If you have seen my beautiful big home on a hill on this blog you will realize it wasn't an easy journey.People are blessed when they visit..the yard, the views and decor..the light!!  It was a miracle gift from God and answer to a prayer of Faith he gave me to believe.

Me at Beach in Malibu praying over notes from George and Terri Pearsons "How to Believe God for a House"

I have been listening to a series called "How to Believe God for a House". by Gloria Copeland and George Pearsons. It was a similar process I went about to receive the house we live in now 12 years ago. I will share with you about it and the answer to that prayer in another post. (this one is long enough ha)

Below is a photo of the Boy's House of James Hubbell in Julian CA. I had the pleasure of standing in it years ago.

Here are some things he said.
On Art by James Hubbell
"Science is about finding truth. Art’s is about finding mystery.......

I am curious why we are we so interested in Controlling everything. From schools to Genetics. We seem to not want any accidents and history has told us that is not possible.......
I am hoping we are going into the Romantic Area where Mystery and the unknown are celebrated and not afraid of."

Harp Guitar by John Doan and Muriel Anderson. Open house Oct 2013 tour. Home film of "Surf Song" designed by James Hubbell. A personal dream & prayer film for livng on the south coast of CA. near my family.

A film dedicated to a Prayer to my God, to Love, and a Image of Life on the Southern CA coast. To James Hubbell beautiful vision for living in the south end of CA. infused by the Spirit of God. To my Grandfather Claude Bonine whom I lived with in my childhood. He was a builder of dreams with his brilliant artistry in Cabinets and various magical homesteads. They were more than homes just as James Hubbell homes where more than. Claudes homes were works of art, a place for people and family to dream and have joy. I honor my Grandfather and God for the vision God gave our family. For my Grandfather giving me his gift of love of place and nature.

I have built with my husband a beautiful Castle on the hill of Oregon. I see now where my artistic visions have come from. This song "Castle in the Sand" lovingly written by Muriel Anderson speak of the truth of what homes and place are truly for...the LOVE you can give people and to build a BEAUTIFUL thing!!

My husband JOHN DOAN and MURIEL ANDERSON'S compositions and exquisite Harp Guitar playing come together to bless this most humble video.

I didn't realize when I did the quick filming of the home that I would want to express it in a youtube video. So please forgive the poor quality. I used some of the low rez photo's off online Coldwell Banker Real Estate ad for the house in Del Mar. If I am contacted I would love to add the name of the photographer for credit.

For more information on the work of James Hubbell please go to his foundation. He and Anne gave me refuge for a few hours at their home talking to me and giving me great joy with their beauty during one of the most diffictult times of my life. Thank you James and Anne

Sumerian Scuptures "Who's Image are you Worshiping..where is your Altar?"

I have been dealing Image.
What is my true image and where does my image of my self come from???
Photo in Mirror with Doll (image)
As I have been going through this journey of my true identity and how I walk in it interesting things come up recently.

Our local museum has a fascinating show Called "Breath of Heaven Breath of Earth"

When I go to Europe or NY or large museums I usually only take a brief look at the Ancient Middle East Sculptures etc. I don't have time to really get into them. Though I find them interesting now that I make dolls.

But now with a show in my own town I have time to understand and appreciate this art. The museum show and the lectures give me an opportunity to not only reflect on the Beauty of the Art but also to reflect on the times and the Biblical story's of Abraham and Ur and the different gods that are mentioned in the Scriptures that are part of my studies and faith daily.
It has brought to life the places and the people. I can see sculptures  like the votive sculptures that represent the looks and the hopes and dreams of an individual of that time.

Wow…right there..real people of Ur and what they believed and looked to for their life and truth.

These where the first people to write. So we know things about their understanding beyond  what can be see in the artist images.
My favorite piece in the show
These were my first impressions when I went to the show.
Isn't it beautiful!!!

But last night I had more insights from the lecture by Dr. Jean Evans

Gifts for the Gods: Sumerian Art from the Temple

Dr. Jean Evans, Research Associate at the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago and author of The Lives of Sumerian Sculpture: An Archaeology of the Early Dynastic Temple, will present an illustrated lecture on Sumerian mythology and religious beliefs as reflected in the votive sculptures, plaques, and other items found in
Sumerian temples.

Dr. Jean talked about how these people made images Votive Sculptures to represent them selves on a deeper level. They would give gifts and earn the right to put their image in the temple of their gods.

This little image of themselves could do worship while they weren't there. Their image like a votive candle would be praying and doing things before their gods all day long to insure they where protected and favored etc. The person who gave the idol that represented them self had all their hopes in this little image to have their prayers answered.

But then weirdly enough their own image in the temple was in the outer courts of the temple. Only the high priests could go into the temple alter and worship and do rituals before the main god of the temple.

So their Votive image of themselves had access through the priests to worship the through the Priests they got to worship and do rituals.

But other people who didn't have the money or access to have a  votive image in the temple where left out. The only way they could worship their god was to worship the at the little idol Votive image of other people who did have access. So this Votive image was left in the outer courts. And the poor people could worship their gods second hand ..not through the priests through their votive image. But only 3rd hand by worshiping at the Votive image in the outer court!
(they did their rituals right there to that idol)

At first I was really confused…you mean people where worshiping the idol of the person who was worshiping the big god idol???

Yep!! …..Wew...think of that........

I like the idea of having direct access directly to God and He made a way to do that see your true self and image in the direct face of your Creator...

Hebrews 4:14-16

King James Version (KJV)
14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Movies a life Journey "Finding your True Self"

I was named after this movie..When you hear how beautiful the name Deirdre sounds in the mouth of Betty Davis you will see why my mother at age 7  choose my name. Old Acquaintance (1943) Trailer

But it was more than just a movie…My name meant the Sorrowful One..full of tears..after the Deirdre of the Celtic Story..she knew things that others would not listen to and when they didn't listen and where destroyed she cried…a name I hoped to prove wrong....

and yet the redemptive meaning was transliterated… from Gaelic.. is God on my Blessing! Little keys to my life story. I have seen movies that meant things to me… lesson that are told in the stories of these movies…little poems to help me on my way. Some that were role models for me and things to try on to find my own identity or false identity's.…. some to show me the pain hidden inside and some to show me the way out and some to act as parables of Gods love for me in love story's. All part of my journey to my True and Real authentic self.

People who don't come to a sense of Being and Well Being in their mothers love suffer and act out greatly in their lives…this comes through some kind of separation..before 1 year for the sense of Being and 3 years for Well Being in the Book by Frank Lake Clinical Theology and Leanne Paynes books who teach about how to come up and out into Life. Important books in my life.

These children are left with Separation anxiety and possible terrible feelings of Non Existence. People act out in various ways to try to connect with others have addictions or find ways to try and solve their horrible loneliness through unhealthy relationships.

In the movie Old Acquaintance you can only imagine why Betti Davis would put up with her narcissistic friend..but each woman had their own pain to act out on each other. Movies and songs are so amazing how the capture these broken places. Old Acquaintance Tribute: All I Know On this theme of finding ones identity and living through another Identity. Movies that touched me. There seemed to be a pattern in my generational family line.  I know more and more about it each day as I come into understanding and repentance.... Walking out is a real "Pilgrimage's Progress" story..and a wonderful journey yet a bumpy path to true LIFE!!.

 Something Borrowed

Why were Darcy and Rachel the way they were? I don't know as the  movie doesn't tell you… but Dex was never allowed to know His identity as His father threw him under the bus for his mother's life and mental he didn't know who he was in Mother or Fathers eyes. He was out of touch with his real self. Interesting one of the comments on the youtube. Check them out..some people where touched like me.

 30 going on 13

Looking to another for your Identity. Taking on a false self!

But Do overs are possible …not without some bumps and pain but In Christ the blessing of becoming your true self will come through Faith and Patience.

Summer 2013

What have I been doing? Spent 6 weeks in Europe while touring with my husband his Harp Guitar concerts.

I am posting some photo's of what I have been doing this summer. I set up this shot of the table in Brussels at a beautiful friends home. I changed it a little in Photoshop to help with my paint. My darling french friend Sophia was captured in the moment of thinking about about how she would set her lovely was so moving. I have been dealing with deep soul wounds surrounding issues of Mother love and unconditional Love. Unselfish love. Of course my sweet Mother had her own issues and so it goes through the generations of lose of mother in my family.
But now is time to has always represented this part of longing for me and it has been healing for me.

This photo of Sophia found her in moment where all her heart was involved in loving her family and guests with every part of her Feminine self. Such a moment of truth and awakenings. It reminded me of Bonnards paintings. Check out the beautiful pinterest link for his paintings.

As I pondered this longing in my heart became even more clear to be blessed by that kind of love. Atime to realize no amount of beauty made by me or others can heal this wound. Only prayer to my loving Creator God who knows all my longings will do. Only giving up and asking Him to repair and heal my heart would every bring this to pass. It is a healing time for me.

No wonder I love Bonnard so much he was always painting the same theme. His colors caress the warmth of the love of the mother..or in his case his wife. French women do have a special way about them and their families I found out this summer as we spent time in two very special French women's homes enjoying there cooking and care.

If any of you know about constitutional Homeopathy you can see how the remedy by my Dr. Steve Albin (of 30 years and is amazing!!) of Nat. Mur is matching and helping me to pass through this time of healing as well as the prayers. Here is a link to a favorite book Homeopathic Psychology: Personality Profiles of the Major Constitutional Homeopathic remedy's... By Philip M. Bailey on the different personality's of Homeopathic remedy's that heal your heart issues and body.

Another wonderful moment this summer was taking a painting class from Deborah DeWit
for 2 weekends at the coast. I learned how to paint dreams and poems.. She is a deep soul and being in her home was very special.

We stayed with wonderful friends at their home at the beach. They opened their home to us and made it possible to enjoy the class on a artists budget. John played a little house concert for their friends and we stayed up in the night talking about art and music and life.

Deborah studio..and work..

First layer and a bit of an effort to get right.
Second layer..I plan to change the face and go looser.  I am just finding my way into the painting.
More of me and Bonnard type of painting as I progress will come forth. Still finding my own style. At least I am more confident with faces and painting now that I have been painting for so long.

More beauty of the summer was planting beautiful David Austin Roses and and spraying them every other day with Deer repellent to keep them from being lunch. It is a full time job but oh how I love roses...I know the Danish women of my family loved them too..I think of my mother and Aunts as I bask in the roses spell.

Please check my facebook
It is so much quicker to post there so I don't go here as much as I would like! Miss you all....

PS the next trip is China and Japan..can you believe it!!!!! I never dreamed of this life. God is so good to me. I trust and thank Him so much...My Lord Jesus Christ!!!

Psalm 16:11

You make known to me the path of life;you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Birthday Bed Blessing!

Look what God gave me for my Birthday..the great Bed.

I bought it for so so cheap on Craigslist on Sunday.  It was finished painting, waxing with Milk paint and set up at midnight on my Birthday Wed......and then Thurs. Jan. 31st. my Birthday day I I found stuff around my house that helped make it work without buying new things..what  blessings.

John feels like a King in it and I feel like a Queen. God is such a loving Father..and I didn't even plan this...I had no idea what I was doing on my birthday as John was working late. We are celebrating all weekend though!!

Miss Mustard's Milk paint Typewriter is great. I love the way milk paint is chalky and flaky..and then when you use wax it just melts into the wood. No plastic feel and so smooth...
By the way Marian, aka Miss Mustard Seed blog and web is faboulous. So many idea's and other blogs to visit. I love her house that was featured on another blog called "The Old Painted Cottage" with wonderful cottages featured year month..with archives!!
I never found the right place for this chair until now. I just keep pushing it around the house..but lovely....

I plan later this year to paint with Miss Mustard seeds milk paint of course the doors behind the TV with the typewriter black and maybe the fireplace mantel too...
Happy Painting to to finish painting my Nikki Nissa Children's book illustrations...

Winter Decorating...

It seems that January is time to paint rooms and furniture.
But what started it was that chair with the black and white cover....It is a massage chair..and UGLY!! But hubby wanted it and they are nice..and a good deal from our friend. So...what to do..Redecorate! And that cost him for sure..But we both love it.
I wanted to paint my guest bedroom. I love the French Gray look that is so in now. I went on line to find a grey.
Nate Burkas likes the Ben Moore Silver Lake grey. I used the Pebble Beach that was just lighter and had it color matched in ACE new Kinsington high end paint primer/paint. It is

My guests have rebelled at sleeping in a full size bed! In England you don't have a choice most of the time..but I thought OK...maybe a Queen will fit. I hated getting rid of the wonderful Old wood bed I had handmade from about 1860's. It was 3/4 and I had it remade to be full.

Then I found this wonderful bed on craigslist and fell in love! I also made a friend of the woman selling it..ha.

I had to make it into a platform bed ..I don't like box springs..too much spring and then they break down! I also love Beautyrest beds best!!! So do my guests! They always say how well they sleep.

Next came the painting of the bed...I have never used the new milk paints but I went down to my local gift/antique mall where they do amazing things with furniture...

They sell the magazine from Denmark that is so lovely....Jeanne d'Arc Living

I wanted that old world look.
So I consulted a few of the girls at the shop...
And low and behold they started selling Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint.  It is flakes off and does great weird things..don't even have to wash off or sand. I finished the piece with wax. Normally I would use clear but I used a pine colored wax..for because I wanted a bit of a wood look left. I watered down the paint and did one coat. It is so fabulous!!
I am working on another desk that I will sell that is oak top and wicker under. The one I took out.

Shutter Gray..with a little Linen white milk paint over the top.

I brought in my old euro pine table and desk from downstairs. I like that look old euro..simple.... The wood is dry but with guest and spills I think I am going to just leave the tables unfinished. I had to sand off a water stain on my old I figured..they are already water stained so why bother making them better...Then I don't care if the guests messes up....

What is this little beauty? A painting I am selling..old 1920's Hollyhock floral..let me know if you are interested. It is 28x24
It just never works anywhere in my house but it is signed and so nice!
