ART STUDIO DECORATING DAY 5

The slow organizing of the studio...a kind of meditation.......decorated and trimmed the tree today...put up shelf...placed the doll...finished staining and making steel and wood shelves. I like how they have silver steel accents....(I showed them in previous post)
Very cool Ikea metal drawers on wheels....this is really exciting....I can have my paints and tools right next to my desk in a retro modern piece that is not that plastic that the wheels keep breaking off....takes about 1 1/2 hour to assemble (sweet husbands did it for me, I couldn't figure it out or muscle it together!)...$38.....Yes I really really like it!
Lookie here....a great widget to make your paints go farther...my oil painting teacher said it really makes a difference and saves you lots of money....I like the way it makes your paints neater and easier to use and store.......

"The tube squeezer concentrates paints to keep them soft. Because it lays the walls of the tube flat together, it also reduces risks of breakage.

Another possible application of this tool is as a paper corrugator for craft."

Benoit Philippe - Artist visit his wonderful oil painting blog

Still slogging away at this still life on Monday's!
My oil study
But I finally learned something cool! When you paint the flowers...it is all about values and color...keep the shadow side dull and a darker value...ochre color...and the side with the light is very warm because the warm light is hitting it....just the edges are lite on some of the flowers...wow it finally worked...and cut back into the flowers with the blue back ground to give them definition. Lights and Darks....value's the same in shadow side or lite side.....soft edges.......hard edges.....warm light cool shadows...........use the classical principals of the Russian Impressionist.............yeah!!!
now look at the teachers version...........
Teacher's oil demo....Jennifer Diehl
Master Painter Teachers...Jennifer Diehl work....she is such a great painter and teacher!!!!

Graphic Art Question

My Artistic friends I have a question for you. Our booking agent for my husband John Doan's music performing career wants me to make a graphic image of him for a postcard. It is a little beyond me...but I can pull it off...I have photo shop and a creative brain. But any help and idea's from you would be so appreciated!!!
This is what he wants.
Project 1 – one side of postcard. Color. The three faces of John Doan. Celtic, Beyond Six Strings, Harpolyre. The completed graphic needs to make the person sorting through their mail stop and want to turn the card over and read more. I would like to try and get this done in the next week to ten days.
Show # 2 "Beyond Six Strings"
A show that features the Harp Guitar and other more than six strings guitars including the Harpolyre.

Show #3 A Classical Show on the 1830's Harpolyre of Fernando Sor the father of the Classical Guitar.

Thank you so much for your help...I am not sure how to start.

Dolls

This morning a wonderful email arrived from "Black Eyed Suzi" a favorite doll maker who sells her work on Etsy.
She said, "Just thought you'd like to see your doll in this stork treasry-yay!"

When I click to the page there on Etsy was a beautiful Video about
her doll making and life. As I scrolled to the bottom of the page along with her dolls and other artists work I found my Young Miss Marie Antoinette...wow!
You must go and check out her video it is marvelous. And see my Miss A!!

An extra surprise was to see Amanda Blake's painting was featured too. How cool is that to be placed with my favorite people. I don't think the etsy blog editor Allison knew that I had talked to Amanda or Blackeyedsuzi recently...
I am so honored.
Take a bow Miss A!!!

ART STUDIO DECORATING DAY 4

Today there were many little details, things to fix, paint and stain .....
I love these old typewriter tables that have wings on the side....and wheels......

I wanted to make some modern shelves for displaying paintings......

I found this cool stainless steel at the buiding supply store..........
I am making 5 more....... they are just what I wanted...I needed some steel accents.
I added a stain piece of wood.............to make the shelf larger.........

at the thrift store I found this light that had been in a wall at a motel.....I painted it and added a cord....need to find a place for it....I want to put it under a table for mood light........

and a little fun things I could put on the oak file cabinet. I spent one day just renailing the old thing and glueing and staining and .......the studio is coming along...and getting so cozy.

ART STUDIO DECORATING DAY 3

As I have been working on moving into my new studio I keep thinking.......
of what my dear friend Shirley Bennett who taught me to decorate said
while we were painting all our furniture white........
"Someday Deirdra we are going to be stripping all that white paint off and taking it all back to wood". Well that day has come...but I cheated...

As I was getting ready to paint this book case brown I thought about my favorite faux painting book by Annie Sloan. (Bye the way she has a wonderful new book "Creating the French Look".)
I realized I could use colors to get a primitive warm look that I am using in my studio. I found this rust red, and dull green. I painted the back wall in the rust and the rest dull green. Added decorations with paints and finished it with watered down dark chocolate brown antique glaze to pull it all together. I will top it with an old piece of wood moulding.
click here to find it on Amazon with different cover.

"My Son Jade"
This morning I worked on the bookcase and today I spent time with my son Jade who was visiting from San Diego. For those of you who know Misty Mawn a lovely artist and teacher has a little son named Jade. I always find it interesting that we both named our boys Jade. I thought Jade was a boys name and only later learned it was used for girls in the East. I love the name and feel fondness that Misty loved the name too.
My son's first name is Bezaleel...he was the man in the bible Ex. 31 that was given the gift of wisdom in the Arts. I thought that was cool and his Dad suggested the name. I planned to call him Jade. "Bezel" means protection "el" means God..Jade means "precious stone".

I didn't realize how amazing the meanings were till later. Bezaleel Jade "A precious stone in the protection of God"! And often parents named their children after things that were their prayer for themselves...like Wisdom in the Arts for my self..and protection...I didn't really understand it all at the time but now it is an interesting thought".

ABUNDANTLY BLESSED WINNER OF OWOH GIVEAWAYS!

My first win from the lovely photographer from New York City...
Judy at
"a New York Magpie's Beads"
she has a wonderful blog of beautiful photo's..
go to her web to see more of her photos and her interesting life in the city.
thank you Judy for this wonderful Red Photo!

Last Jan. 19th on the day the One World One Heart giveaway I posted me giveaway at 1 am. By that time I was still number 37. I couldn't wait for it start. I had so much fun last year and even won some of the giveaways. Most importantly I made dear blog friends who I stayed in touch with all year. I was prepared this time knowing I would have to be diligent and systematic if I was going to go to all the new giveaways. Last year there were over 200.

I then won a wonderful pencil assemblage from Linda Crispell from Chicago! It looks like I am going back to School!!! Linda was featured in Mary Engelbreit's Home Companion, Feb./March 2008. Her blog is not to be missed. Thank you so much Linda and for the link and loving words about my dolls.

This year I thought maybe 500....but each day the number went higher and higher....finally topping out at 911 on the closing day for sign ups.
Whew.....I counted how many blogs I would have to go to each day to make it through. I didn't want to miss anyone. I discovered so many wonderful people and artists last years giveaway. So each meal and each break found me going through the wonderful blogs on the list. I took time to go over each one and even checking older posts so I could really see what people were doing and who they were. Near the end I had to not post comments on some blogs just to allow me to get to everyone. Funny thing I was finished with all 911 a day or two before it was over...yeah!!!

Oh and then came this darling cuff from Martha Brown in Toronto Canada. She makes such wonderful things please go see her blog too. thank you Martha!

I made friends with so many new people and even plan to visit one in Europe and have her visit me here. ..........so what is the point!!!!!........well I think Feb 12 for me was Christmas!!! I won 5 different giveaways...wow...I don't think I was the first one drawn on any of them. Most of the ones I won had more than one giveaway...so I was really blessed that they gave away more than one gift.

And lookie here..."This beautiful butterfly decal is waiting to land on your wall and bring color and beauty to your d├ęcor.
Our butterfly decals are based on high resolution photos of real butterflies from around the world.
The size is approximately 6”x6” some are a bit wider."
A gift from Tina who lives in Florida. These butterflies 10 of them are from her etsy shop.
thank you Tina!

As a way of thanking them I want to post all the lovely things I am receiving....with the links to each and everyone of my new dear blog friends from OWOH....
Thank you so much all of you!!!

And finally and these magical cards from Tammy Lee of Montana who takes the most wonderful nature photo's and makes them into prints and cards.
"I would like to tell you first your winner is one very lucky lady!
(oh so sweet Tammy)
Also:
You have won my giveaway!!! Yea, yeeha, celebration!"
thank you so much Tammy!

I think some of my wonderful wins will be going on as gifts...the cards..butterflies...
It was so fun I hope you all join OWOH next year...oxoxox
